I've got my love to keep me warm

Chris and I take turns planning our romantic holidays (i.e. Valentine's Day and our wedding anniversary). This year was Chris's year to take on the V-day project and he did a stellar job. He planned our night out on the Saturday before Valentine's Day. One of the art museums in Charlotte posted a murder mystery in bus kiosks all over town. You had to start at a specific bus kiosk for the first page and then it you would have to go to the next kiosk to get the next page of the story. Despite the Arctic wind blasting through the city (literally the only truly cold weekend we've had this winter), we had a great time running around the city together. We never figured out who dun it (it was supposed to be revealed at a later date and we missed the reveal) but it was fun nonetheless. We thawed out at a local dive called The Diamond where we enjoyed Fanta Cherry and fried pickles (yay for the South!). The boys had a romantic time this year as well. They exchanged ca...

Chris turns 10!

February brings one of our favorite holidays: Chris's birthday! On the actual day, we took Chris to an amazing Brazilian restaurant in Uptown Charlotte called Chima. It is not the most kid-friendly place, but kids 6 and under eat free so we thought we would take advantage of this as Davin is destined to turn 7 in a few months. Davin did a pretty good job making the most of his free meal (I think he ate more than me) and Rowan loved the rolls from the salad bar. :) The boys behaved beautifully (even Chris) and we all had a great time. That weekend we had what is now becoming the yearly tradition: Xbox night at the Rees man cave. I loaded the kitchen table with a sizable spread while Chris connected 4 TVs and 4 Xboxes in preparation for some intense gaming action. The evening was a success, to say the least. Chris once mentioned that he wanted to build a bonus room onto our house so he could have a space to hang multiple TV screens so that we could hav...

Spoiled!

Rowan's class at school did a lesson unit on learning about community helpers such as doctors, police officers, and mail workers. One of there activities included having the kids pretend to be mail workers in their class and deliver mail to each other. Rowan's teacher asked parents and family to send in real mail for the students to open and I forwarded the request to our family with the expectation that he would get a few postcards. We were overwhelmed with the thoughtful packages and cards that he received! It was so fun for Rowan to mail to open at school and we really felt the love and support from our family as Rowan is taking on the challenge of working on his speech and preparing to be in a mainstream classroom. He is doing so well and we are really proud of all that he is learning!
