West coast Reeses

Our last day in Austin was spent hanging with our west coast cousins. We decided that they are entirely too far away, particularly when all the boys have so much in common. Nevertheless the boys made good use of their time, covering multiple topics of play.  Before we knew it, it was time to head back to the airport and to Charlotte. Davin couldn't have been too disappointed as he had a week of Cub Scout day camp waiting for him!

Celebrating Oma

The main purpose of our visit was to celebrate Oma's eightieth birthday. We all went to dinner at Texas Land and Cattle restaurant and it was fun to enjoy a meal together.

Austin highlights

Davin and Rowan are Austin pros and we had a good time visiting some old favorites as well as finding a few new adventures. We stocked up on Texas gear in preparation for the upcoming season. Even Ellie got a new dress (to be debuted in a future post...). We checked out the new Austin children's museum: Thinkery . It was amazing!  We visited some old friends in their new home in San Antonio. It was great to see the Mosses and remember how much we like them!  We spent a fun day at Schlitterbahn, a huge water park in between Austin and San Antonio. The boys had a great time while Ellie and I enjoyed some quiet time by the pool.  We had a few crazy adventures in Austin (a scorpion bit Rowan one evening and Chris was pulled over on suspicion of drunk driving) but overall it was a great visit!

Visit with Oma and Opa

Visiting Oma and Opa's house (Grandma and Grandpa Nissen) is one of our favorite things to do in Austin. Oma and Opa had two new grandbabies to meet this year: Ellie and her cousin Torben. They are a cute pair! Oma's house backs up against a golf course which means the occasional golfer and finding a golf ball treasure. There are always fresh baked goods in the kitchen, spicy mustard and deli meat in the fridge, and a lovely garden in the back.  We love Oma and Opa!
