Zions

After a yummy breakfast at the Bear Paw Cafe  we left St. George and headed to Zions Canyon National Park. Despite that I still claim to be a native of Utah, admittedly Zions is not a park in which I'm intimately experienced. I hiked Angel's Landing in college (which was its own adventure) but I felt like I was going to Zions almost as a novice tourist. It was stunningly beautiful, breathtaking even. There are times when it felt like we were the only ones speaking English and for good reason. Zions is worth traveling halfway around the world to see. We took the park tram to the last stop at the Temple of Sinawava and hiked to the base of the Narrows. The heat made the easy terrain a little more challenging and we found a lovely bend in the river shaded by the sheer rocks above for a cool break.  The kids did well on the hike despite the heat (though Rowan was a little overheated at the end). St George

Our kids have never been to southern Utah and I have been looking forward to introducing this part of the state to them. Not only is the scenery unbelievable, both Chris and I have ancestors that settled those areas and it was fun to share those stories with our boys. We started out trip down I-15 with a stop in Provo to say hi to Nora, Haley, Jeremy, and baby Wren. Of course I didn't take pictures except for this one of the boys by a stream at a park in Provo. Wren is a doll and it was fun to finally see her! Our friends in Charlotte arranged for us to stay in their family condo in St. George and we arrived just in time to jump into the pool while Chris picked up dinner at Cafe Rio. It was a good night and we had a great time swimming in the pool.  The next morning we drove to Snow Canyon, so named for Chris's ancestor Erastus Snow who was one of the principal settlers of St. George.
