School is starting soon and while it's been a fantastic summer with many adventures, we realized that we haven't had a "just us" getaway. Chris had a couple of free hotel nights and we decided to venture south to the Ventura/Oxnard area for a last hurrah before school starts. After a six hour car ride, we made it to Oxnard just in time for dinner. Chris scoped out a Brazilian restaurant that specialized in "mocequa"-- a fish stew cooked in clay pots. One of our favorite restaurant experiences in Brazil when Chris and I traveled there in 2004 was a mocequa seafood restaurant in Brasilia. It's rare to find restaurants that serve it in the US and Moqueca Brazilian Cuisine did it right. It was not high on the kids' list of what they wanted to try but they were good sports and decided it was a fun food experience (of course ordering a picanha steak to share didn't hurt).
