The hospital took such good care of me that I was able to go home a day early. As much as I love staying at a hospital, it was great to be home again with my boys. Ellie certainly made an impact into our lives but it was amazing how quickly she fit in as well.
The question everyone keeps asking me is "how are the boys adjusting to their new sister?" The answer is "brilliantly!" One night, we were watching a movie together and there was a brief scene where a baby lost his mother. Rowan was so upset by this that he started sobbing! We couldn't figure it out at first but soon realized that Rowan was worried that Ellie would get lost too. Both boys love to hold Ellie and give her hugs. Davin is so gentle and sweet with her! Rowan is working on it; he adores Ellie and sometimes he loves her too much, but the intention is always good. The boys are both good helpers too. Most of the time they don't complain when I can't help them right away like I used to, and they will usually help without complaining if I need something.
Grandma Stevenson came to meet Ellie and help me with my recovery. Her help was invaluable! We all loved having her with us and she took great care of us. It was so fun to hang out with the "girls" and to see Mom connect with her new granddaughter. We had so many help us when Ellie came that it was almost overwhelming. In addition to a baby shower and many baby gifts, we had several friends from church and our neighborhood bring us meals and offer to help with our boys. I bought a large box of thank you cards thinking I would have some left over that I could use for other occasions but the box is nearly empty because of all the thank you's I needed to send. The card seemed inadequate to express our love the for the wonderful people in our lives and I hope that we will be able to reciprocate someday. There is nothing like a life changing event to make evident the number of people who care for you. I'm grateful that our life changing event was Ellie!
