Ellie's first year is a time in my life that I will treasure. While there were bumps in the road and challenging moments, I have enjoyed every kiss and every cuddle, and I will miss having her as a baby. It really does go by too fast (though note to self, don't say that to a new mom because to her a single day can seem endless). It is so exciting to see Ellie grow as well. She started walking at eleven months and mastered other gross motor skills quickly. She is picking up language quickly; her first words were cup, dog, dada, etc, but now (at nearly fourteen months) she probably has forty words. She understands a lot and follows directions; she loves looking at pictures of our family and she is starting to learn names. Given where we have been, it is a huge sigh of relief to see her make progress in these areas. She is still a little pea and hasn't crossed the 20lbs threshold yet but she eats a great diet and is growing normally even if she is on the petite end of the curve. Overall she is a happy little soul who loves to laugh and dance when the music is good. We adore our sweet Ellie and we are so glad she picked our house to join.
The title of this blog also happens to be the name of our new baby. Rowan Isaac. Rowan is a Celtic name that means "little red one", and Isaac is a Hebrew name that means laughter. His initials (RIR) also spell the Portuguese verb "to laugh". So hopefully he will be a fun kid. We think he is already. He arrived today, November 28, 2007 at 2:15 pm (or thereabouts - I'll have to check the exact time). Both he and Katie are doing fine and resting a bit. He weighs 9 lbs, 2 oz., and as you can see from the picture, he has beautiful blond hair. He is a good little boy so far, and we're excited to have him in our family. Davin is with our good friends, the Smiths, this afternoon, but we think he understands a bit and is excited to meet his new little brother later this afternoon. We would like to thank you all for your love and your prayers, and hopefully we'll get a chance to talk to and see many of you soon so you can meet our little guy. If you want to see m...
