Ellie turned one a few days after Mom left so we decided to celebrate a little earlier so that Mom could be involved. Mom and I took Ellie shopping to Target and Mom asked me what we should get Ellie. Unprepared to navigate the world of "girl toys" I thought that we should stick to something age appropriate like a ball maze. As we walked down the baby doll aisle, Ellie spotted a baby doll from the end of the aisle and walked to it right away. She was in love with the baby! Fortunately it didn't cost a fortune and Mom brought it home to surprise Ellie. When Ellie opened the baby, she looked at Mom with big eyes when she realized what was in the package. It was her baby! She was so excited and kept giving it hugs and kisses. She also got a stuffed puppy from Mom and Dad that she loved as well. Ellie is a cuddle bug! A few days later Ellie opened a doll house from Grandma Rees and loved the fun button that made little songs; the set had a baby too which she was eager to play with. We are into the world of girl toys now, no more trucks and cars for Ellie!
Chris was out of town for Ellie's actual birthday but the boys and I took her to dinner. She enjoyed some new big girl foods like ice cream as we could now try giving her dairy. She didn't react to dairy and is loving her new diet. A few weeks after her party when Chris was back in town we had a backyard bonfire with friends to celebrate our favorite one year old. We had many celebrations to mark Ellie's birthday which is okay because we like a good party at this house.
